Replenish Your Energy and Clean your Energyfield and Space Daily

I cannot stress more highly the importance of keeping your body/energy field, sacred healing space and home clear of stagnant, dirty energy on a daily basis.  I thought i was doing a pretty good job with this until I ran into several very highly intuitive people in the know. I was lovely given a ton of new ways/information around this issue and would like to share some of them with you here.

One of the first very simple things you can do is open the windows and let in some fresh air and light!   In your healing space especially. YES that simple!

We are told in Reiki classes to always run cold water over our hands after a healing session (even up to your elbows) but that assumes that we are in an area where a water basin is accessible to us. What if it isn't?   Then do Kenyoku or Dry Brushing.. This is a Japanese Buddhist technique for clearing your energyfield quickly.  Do it before and after any kind of healing session, when you've been in a crowd, in an argument with someone or been in traffic that felt dangerous and scary.  Or use it anytime you feel you need to clear yourself.

You can sage or smudge yourself and your space/home with sacred sage and a feather. Use a set of Tibetan Tingchas or a singing bowl to clear the energy in your space or use specially formulated room clearing sprays (see pic to the far left).  Try sandalwood incense in place of sage.

Do things like practice T'ai Chi Chuan, Qigong or Yoga to bring in more universal life force energy into your field/body daily.

To clear your mind, meditate.  I recently read that meditating is like defragging the mind.   It clears out all the clutter - think of it as hitting the delete button on your computer to remove all the spam messages!

KENYOKYU is a method used to rid the body/aura of negative energy, similar to Taoist massage.

Sit in a chair, feet firmly planted on the ground, sit up straight. Place hands in the gassho or prayer position (thumbs touching sternum, elbows out to the side.) Mentally say, “I practice Kenyoku now”.  Focus inward and take a few long deep breaths to center and ground yourself.  Place your right hand on your left shoulder, take in a breath and as you exhale stroke your hand down the front of the body to your right hip in a straight line.  Make sure you bring the hand over the sternum and that the hand is flat.  Repeat on the other side – left hand right shoulder, etc., and end by repeating the brushing technique once more on the left side (right hand to left shoulder)

Now extend your left arm straight out in front of you, place your right hand on the top of the left shoulder, inhale and brush down the entire arm past the fingers as you exhale. Repeat on the right arm and repeat on the left arm one more time.

When you are complete with the process, bring your hands into gassho/prayer position once more over the heart and mentally say” I am now complete with the Kenyoku process” Take a few moments before standing up and then go about your day.

This process can also be used at the beginning and end of a Reiki session or Reiki sending
to break the connection between you and the receiver or the person/persons you have sent
Reiki to.

I'll be sharing more techniques with you in my post - stay tuned!

RECEIVING INTUITIVE GUIDANCE DURING A REIKI SESSION - TO SHARE OR NOT TO SHARE

I recently read an article in a Reiki publication that angered, saddened and disgusted me.  The author was a pretty big name in the Reiki world and what she said was so counter to what I know in my heart and soul to be the truth about those of us who are gifted/talented in this way, whatever you want to call it, with the ability to receive messages or guidance during Reiki sessions.

I'm going to tell you my story.  Many of you already know it, but I feel that it deserves and needs to be told AGAIN!   I had a few instances in my younger days that, as I look back, that  I now see as hints of what was to come, but like so many, I wasn't paying attention.  When I became Reiki in 2004, while doing the fun, "hands on" part of the class, the first person I worked on was complaining of back pain.  She
laid down on the table on her tummy and as soon as I touched her, I had a vision/knowing of a fall she took from a ladder.  So I asked her "did you fall off a ladder"?  She turned around to face me quickly and asked me how the heck did I know that -  she'd fallen off a step ladder and that is when the pain started.   I don't know - I just did.  I also began to see the colors of the energy coming in (behind my closed eyes) while I channeled Reiki.  Something was really up here!  I was suddenly clairvoyant, clair audient and clair sentient.

I continued to have more magical experiences as I worked on some friends in my home, seeing amazing visions, and even seeing a ghost in my house.  I thought at the time, that this was just all part and parcel of being Reiki, and never gave it second thought that I what I was experiencing was different from anyone else's Reiki experience.  I later found out this is not the case.

When we were forced to move to Wisconsin in 2005 because our house was inundated with toxic mold, I found a Reiki teacher immediately and started training to become a Reiki Master Teacher. I was told by this person that I should keep my mouth shut about my "psychic abilities"  that I could harm myself and others, and it was not a part of Reiki.  I struggled with this for years and the messages kept coming, and eventually I was even receiving messages from the dead.

Then I read Amy Rowland's book "Intuitive Reiki For Our Times" and everything changed. I cried and cried when I read about Amy's experiences as a Reiki Master Teacher. She was having the same experiences I was and more. I felt so freed, so understood, so relieved.  I emailed Amy and told her, and we wrote back and forth a few times. Thank God that she wrote that book - it told me all I needed to hear.

Hearing intuitive (psychic) information/guidance when you are doing Reiki IS a part of Reiki and IS as natural and normal as breathing, if you came in this lifetime with this gift/ability. IT IS!!! Shine your light tell the world, and shout it to the rooftops!

There are two caveats however. Number one - be discerning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Even the most highly recognized and celebrated psychics in the world today (Lisa Williams, James Van Praagh, John Edward for example) will be the first to tell you that they cannot EVER guarantee ALL the information they receive is 100% accurate.  So if you receive information when you are in session with someone doing Reiki, what do you do with it?  Weigh it in your mind, is it positive? Will it scare the person you've got it for?  Will they be open to receiving it?  Does it feel "right" to you? AND ask their permission before the session to share what you receive!  Tell them what you are capable of and ask them, "Do you want to hear all or just some of the intuitive messages I may pick up while doing your Reiki session?"  If you talk to dead people, MAKE THAT CLEAR!    Some people may not be at all interested in hearing anything and some people will be wanting till the end of the  the session, so that you can tell them what you received.

The second caveat is not to get a big head about it.  Yes you have a gift/ability but stay out of EGO about it.  Let the world know yes, but be humble also.  I have found over the years, that whether I receive or do not receive information about my client is not up to me also.  Just like how much or how little healing and releasing takes place during a Reiki session is all controlled by the person receiving the session, so is the intuitive information.   If the person is closed off to this, I get nothing.  If they are open and trusting, and genuinely wanting to receive guidance or messages from their crossed over loved ones, or who their power animal or guardian angel is, or what emotion was stuck in whatever particular part of their body I was working working on, they will.   I also feel that if they are gifted with these abilities, it increases the chances of my receiving information.  So just like the power of the Reiki energy is exponentially increased by the number of Reiki Practitioners working on you at once, I feel it is the same with the "psychic"energy (if you will).  I am much more likely to receive information if my client is also psychic/intuitive, and the more they are gifted, the more I will hear, see and know.

WHICH REIKI POSITIONS MIGHT BE SEEN AS A THREAT BY YOUR CLIENT/RECEIVER?

I recently came across some images on Google when doing a search under "Reiki" for a pic to put up on my Reiki Facebook page, and saw several pictures of hand positions that  I'd never seen before.  So I posted them on in my Facebook group page and asked if others in the group had heard of, seen, or used any of these positions.

The feedback I got surprised me.   Apparently, working in the breast area (and I would assume around the groin area as well) can be perceived as a threat, and will illicit a reaction in the sympathetic nervous system. Obviously, we would not want anything we are doing during a healing session to be perceived as a threat.  This would be very counterproductive to what it is we are trying to do for our client, help them relax.  Relaxing into the session is so very important as it has a lot to do with the receiver's ability to allow the energy to flow.

Now you're probably thinking to yourself "DUH", and on some level I can definitely say that I personally would be one of those persons perceiving it to be a threat, being a rape survivor.  I've had people just clap their hands right down onto my chest (thymus area) and I've felt myself tense up and have wanted to say "move your hands", but didn't because I knew the person and knew their intention was pure, but still I was very uncomfortable.

But do we really think about how our client (receiver) is going to react when we place our hands on their body when we are coming from a loving and care-giving place?  Are we really thinking when we place our hands on their bodies in "sensitive" areas that they might perceive what we are doing as a threat when we do it?

So what do you do instead?  Try working above the body in the aura in these areas or use these alternative positions.  As you sit to the side of your client, with your chair at the level of their hips, place both hands on the right hip, one right next to the other, with the fingertips pointing toward the center of the body.  When you go around to the other side of the body, after working on the rest of the body of the right side (thigh, knee, shin, ankle, foot) and then move to treat the foot, ankle, shin, knee, thigh on the left side, repeat the hand position on the left side.  This hand position treats both the sacral and root chakra together and the hip joint.  (from "Hand to Hand" by John Harvey Gray)

There is also another position to treat both the sacral and root chakras I picked up from another book.  If you're standing on the right side of the receiver, place your left hand horizontally over their abdomen level with the navel, getting  the tip of your middle finger as close as possible to the navel.  The right hand is placed right over the hip joint vertically and you should have your right fingertips under the heel of the left hand if possible.  You will actually feel an indention in the body where the hip and leg come together that the heel of your hand will just fit right into.  (from "Reiki Hands That Heal" by Joyce Morris).

For the heart area, just hold your hands about 3" or more above the body, with one hand overlapping (so under the other hand at the heel of the hand), fingers together, thumbs in, and work in the aura.

THE MIRACLE THAT IS REIKI

I was going to write on a totally different topic today, but then I got a real eye opener about Reiki and changed my mind. You always hear about miracles, we all pray for miracles daily sometimes, even beg for miracles to happen, but do we really realize when we have one starring us in face?

How do I know Reiki is a miracle? To start with, I healed a case of Anxiety Disorder so bad that I was Agoraphobic for almost two years, by making a contract with myself to do a full Reiki self-treatment on myself every night (sometimes a 90 minute process) for a year.   I did that to prove once and for all that, #1 Reiki was all that it is said to be, and #2, to make darn sure that I could still be a Reiki Master Teacher and really stand behind what I do.

I had began to doubt Reiki.  How could this happen to me if I was a "REIKI MASTER TEACHER" after all. I think it was a test. A test to help me see that Reiki was all it is said to be and more!!!!!!

And as I sit in my living room giving Reiki to a teddy bear who is acting as a stand in for a Reiki client miles and miles away, and I feel the energy flowing, the heat, the pulsing, the swirling and hear information about the person, how can I doubt that Reiki IS A MIRACLE!  Sent from the Divine (oh come on now - from God!) when we all so desperately need some miracles right now!!!!

When 230 something Nigerian girls are rustled up like cattle and sold off for money, when Islamic girls (some even pre-puberty) are led in chains to be married off to old men, and the government would rather spend billions, trillions even on wars in foreign countries for the oil then help its millions of homeless, ill and dying citizens inside it's own borders.  WE NEED SOME DAMN MIRACLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I had an idea.  HOW ABOUT THIS - we all know the efficacy of sending Reiki to anything, anywhere - HOW ABOUT SENDING REIKI DAILY FOR THIS:
To get those poor girls home
To wake people up to the dangers of putting pesticides on their lawns, eating food sprayed with pesticides, and eating animals who are stacked up on top of each other and can't even move in their cages
To save the bees/butterflies/frogs/hummingbirds and all the other endangered species that are affected by all the pesticides and herbicides that are being applied in the hundreds of thousands of tons all over the planet constantly, poisoning the planet for your children, grand children and beyond who even survive what we're doing to Mother Earth
To animals (dogs/cats/horses/hamsters) to who are being put down in the hundreds of thousands everyday all over the planet
To getting the greedy, bribe taking politicians out of our government who want huge raises
but are denying people a decent minimal wage
To whatever the heck you know in your heart needs to change if we are all going to survive and save our planet!!!

ORGANIZE your life and make a change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INTERESTING AND ENLIGHTENING NEW INFO COMING OUT OF JAPAN

In my last newsletter, I brought to your attention the mind blowing information about the DKM - the Reiki Master Symbol.   Having now in my possession Doi Sensei's book "A Modern Reiki Method For Healing" (revised edition), I have learned that all roads lead to Mrs. Takata being the one who introduced it into the Western Reiki Tradition.  Why is still not apparent.  What I also found is that she didn't attune/teach her 22 masters until the last five years of her life.  Another question, why did it take her so long to get to  the point of making people Reiki Master Teachers? Have no clue.

Another interesting fact is that Hayashi Sensei did go all the way to the Shin-pedin level (Master), which only raises more questions about  why we do atunements/initiations instead of Reiju to connect the student to the energy that is Reiki, which was the way and is the way that Usui Sensei connected his students to the energy and the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai still does.
Doi also states that Usui Sensei  opened the Gakkai, which was another mystery, some saying that Hayashi Sensei formed it after his death along with his other Naval Officer buddies.  The first three presidents of the Gakkai were all Naval officers.  I do remember reading that many of the Gakkai were very unhappy with the memorial society being inundated with them and mockingly began calling the Gakkai, "the officers club."    Hayashi Sensei was asked to leave the Gakkai  because of his radically tweaking the system and he went out and opened his own offices and wrote his own manual reflecting his more Western scientific/medical approach to Reiki.

One thing I am finding very interesting about Doi Sensei's book is that most of the information on the history of Reiki he talks about, I already knew through Frank Arjava Petter's books and Taggart King's Reiki Manuals that he so generously gifted me.  So nice to see all of this info being confirmed over and over again.

Here a few little nuggets of info about Reiki that I felt were important and different enough from what I knew about Reiki to share with you:

1) Putting one hand over the other hand on an area you are treating makes the energy coming out of your hands there stronger.

2) Both the receiver and the practitioner (he calls the practitioner the sender) get "showered" with Reiki when giving Reiki during a session. "Healing begins when the sender puts his/her Reiki hands on a receiver and the necessary energy begins to flow into the receiver.  At the same time, Reiki pours on both of them like a shower, and a swirl of Light surrounds them.  The excess energy flows into the ground and they both get healed at the same time.  The key for the smooth flow of Reiki is to just relax and feel the Love of the Universe."

3)"Reiki automatically adjusts the energy flow as and where needed; it supplies the shortage and clears away the excess."  (never heard that before - about the excess!).

4) "Reiki keeps revitalizing the energy flow even after the healing" - he is talking here about people sometimes having a "reaction" after a Reiki treatment - possible having a pain sensation, temperature change in their palms, or an energy flow inside their body, or muscle twitching."  He highly advises Reiki Practitioners to always inform their clients of these possibilities.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

I have had a whirlwind couple of days recently.  First, someone in our community in Wisconsin has written an article in a major publication stating that you do not need to be attuned to Reiki to do Reiki or use it's symbols and snidely making comments about our over charging for the training.  Obviously this person is grossly misinformed and possible a little jealous ??   There was a lot of nasty coming from her article.   You could say venomous.  YIKES!  What the heck is that all about?

To publish something like this to a very broad audience is extremely reckless and dangerous, and I find it hard to believe that the editors let it go through (obviously clueless).   Several of us Reiki Master Teachers have done what we can to write to the magazine to let them know how disturbed, offended and down right pissed off we are that this happened.

First of all, YOU CANNOT CHANNEL REIKI UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN PROPERLY ATTUNED BY A CERTIFIED AND QUALIFIED REIKI MASTER TEACHER!  NO IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reiki is a particular vibration of energy that requires an attunement (a sacred ceremony performed by a Reiki Master Teacher) to connect you to the energy so that you can channel for yourself and others. You cannot use it or it's symbols if you are not attuned.   If you set out to channel Reiki and use it's symbols without an attunement you are tapping into God's know what energy (unquestionably a low vibrational one) and you are asking for BIG trouble, number one.

Secondly, you will more than likely be using some if not a lot of your own PERSONAL energy, which will deplete you eventually (sooner if not later) leading to disease and early death.   Your life force energy is finite - use it up like this and that is what you get.

Telling people that they can channel Reiki/use it symbols without an attunement is harmful and dangerous  to the public and yourself.  This person is doing that and not charging for it (another message here folks - we charge for Reiki because we know that  it has value - the public does not find value in what they get for free!)

Yesterday, I just heard about Reiki/Wine parties happening down south.   Drinking lowers your vibration people (as does smoking, gambling, and taking drugs).  You cannot mix the high vibrational energy of Reiki with the low vibration of drinking alcohol and think "it's all good."  You are deluding yourself if you think you can.   I am just speechless about this one.  BIG NO NO!!

Obviously, there is some lower vibrational stuff going on out there in the world around Reiki  and that saddens and troubles me.   Many lightworkers have felt that we are under attack lately - car accidents, pet deaths, cancer, being kicked out of our apartments, marriages endings, lots of health issues.   Get your protection up and clear your home and space regularly!  Do LOTS of self-Reiki!

Grounding and Centering

You've probably heard the term "grounding"  or "earthing" before and wondered what it means and why is it necessary to ground.  "Grounding is a process that helps the body to connect to life sustaining earth energies via its root chakra. Because we are first and foremost spiritual beings the physical body sometimes is ignored or gets neglected. It is important to respect and care for the "container" that houses our spirit during our incarnate lifetime. " (from About.com Holistic Healing).   In many books on to ground  and center before doing any healing work.  In a dowsing class I took recently, we were taught to ground and center before dowsing (as well as connect to Father Sky).  There are many ways to ground, and I'll give you a few examples,  I suggest you experiment with several or all of them, check out other forms of grounding and see which ones feels the best for you!.

Grounding can be as simple as wearing or carrying in your pocket, a particular crystal/stone that is known for it's grounding properties like hematite (hematite has poverty consciousness according to my Crystal Healing teacher Ashley Leavy so I am not a fan of it) or black tourmaline, jet or smoky quartz.

Or you can try sitting in yoga lotus position on the floor and imagining a large root growing out of the base of your spine and going down into the earth about 250 feet (how far varies from book to book, teacher to teacher). I have included a picture of the seated position you would need to be in if lotus position doesn't work for you.  Spine straight, sitting bones on chair, chin parallel to the floor, and hands facing up in your lap or on your thighs.  I have also given you an image of what Mother Earth looks like inside so you can visualize your root/s going down past the crust, etc.  Some people say you should not send your root into the molten, hot lava-like center of the earth, but instead imagine some cool, quiet place in her center, like a crystal cave or an area of large boulders to wrap your roots around.   Send your consciousness down the root and into the earth, asking Mother Earth to take all that is not serving you and transform it into whatever she needs it for.  Breathe in earth energy up from your root/s and breathe out and release negative, stagnant, dirty energy down the root/s and into Mother Earth, who is always ready and willing to assist us in this way.  Do this until you feel fresh and clear and don't forget to thank Mother Earth for this service before you get up.   Get up slowly and drink some water, before returning to normal activities.

In her book "Reiki For Children" Kytka Hilmar-Jesek, ND has a whole section called "Grounding to the Earth" on page 51-53.  "Grounding and centering are probably the most important exercixes you will ever learn.  Grounding allows you to connect with Universal Life Force Energy and to find your own center. It as at your own center where you connect directly with the spirit and the Universal Life Force Energies. "   Kytka first walks you through a whole body relaxation meditation, similar to the one I do in my Reiki classes before I give the attunements.  I instruct the students to sit as I have described above, close their eyes and breathe in relaxation into the body starting at the toes and working your way up to the crown, and breathe out any stress, tension, tightness, discomfort or pain out through the bottom of the feet (soles of the feet where the minor chakras are) and release it into Mother Earth, where she will transform it for her purposes.

There are also foods you can eat, clothes you can wear and exercises you can do to ground.
